There is a longstanding tradition in Ethiopia of coffee production, dating back to the origins of the bean itself. On the west highland plateaus of Ethiopia where coffee trees were first discovered, farmers are still collecting wild coffee berries. Today, coffee is also a commercial crop, with Ethiopian plantations producing seeds that stand up to the expectations of the world’s best brands.
In many parts of Ethiopia, the dry processing method of coffee is still used, being passed down through the generations. This procedure produces small batches of coffee for local consumption. Even in regions with a single coffee tree, berries will be collected and laid out to dry in a fenced off plot of land with a handful of coffee-drying stones. Coffee dried in this simple way is rarely exported – the locals clean the dried berries and then roasts them for their own consumption or to sell on the domestic market.
At Harenna Coffee company, we follow this century-tested process and offer our clients a unique sun-dried Highland Arabica from the finest plantations of Ethiopia. Our coffee is smooth, rich, with an intense flavor and aroma. We use traditional manual drum roasters which operate at low temperatures to give our coffee a rich and intense taste with a slight hint of cocoa and chocolate. All our coffee is packaged on site to ensure freshness and the best possible aroma.
Moreover, our coffee supply chain is controlled by the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) and Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union. This approach ensures fair trade conditions for local farmers.
